It’s unacceptable, satanic – Ohanaeze condemns killing of 16 soldiers in Delta community

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Tuesday condemned the killing of 16 soldiers in Okuama community of Delta State.

Ohanaeze described the massacre as a barbaric and satanic act that is unacceptable.

Factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the soldiers deserve justice.

A statement by Isiguzoro reads: “In the wake of the merciless Okuama massacre that claimed the lives of 17 soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion, we are engulfed in a profound mix of grief, anger, and contemplation.

“The loss of these valiant soldiers, who were on a mission of peace in the Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State, is a grievous tragedy that demands urgent justice and remembrance.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo stands resolutely beside the families of the fallen soldiers and the Nigerian Army, mourning the unfathomable loss of these courageous souls. The brutal killings of our soldiers are not just unacceptable, but barbaric, satanic, and cowardly acts that must not be left unpunished.

“The people of Delta State must rise and ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are swiftly brought to justice. The armed perpetrators and killers must be held accountable and face the full wrath of the law for their despicable actions, which have left a wound in the hearts of many that can never fully heal.”

Isiguzoro also disclosed plans by the apex Igbo socio-cultural body to immortalize the memory of the slain soldiers.

“As we extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the fallen, particularly Major DE Obi and others who paid the ultimate sacrifice, we pledge to immortalize their memory.

“During the forthcoming 2024 Igbo Easter Retreat in Asaba, tributes will be paid to Major DE Obi and the other 16 gallant soldiers, ensuring that their bravery and sacrifice are never forgotten.”
