That Suswam’s Channels TV Interview

By Aare Abiodun Oluwarotimi

I have read a lot of opinions, comments and media back lashes following the interview which a former governor of Benue state and an aspirant for the position of the national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Senator Gabriel Suswam PhD had with Channels TV two days ago, and I think he was misquoted or maybe his accusers didn’t wait patiently to watch the 16th to 20th minute of the interview.

I think those who have been condemning Senator Suswam over the said interview are just doing that to cause a bad blood between the senator and his very good friend, Chief Samuel Ortom PhD.

For the sake of record, Dr. Suswam didn’t call for the suspension of his friend, Dr. Samuel Ortom. What will his gains be if he plots the suspension of his friend? Nothing. Remember Dr. Suswam had said many times that he has the blessings of Chief Samuel Ortom PhD to aspire for the highest position in the PDP. Chief Ortom too has confirmed his blessing so why should anyone try to ruin that sweet relationship between the duo?

Hear him: “Like I said, Section 58 of the PDP clearly spells it out. You don’t just wake up and expel somebody. You must follow the laid down procedure as provided in Section 58. And once you apply that, the doctrine of fair hearing will be given to people that the party feels are working against it.

“The people that are working against the party have what is worrying them. Are those things substantial enough to take those actions? Yes or no. That will be left for the Disciplinary Committee to decide. There will be fair hearing for everybody “

Going by Senator Suswam’s statement, I think he still believes that Chief Samuel Ortom and others cannot be suspended without first giving them a fair hearing. Recall that he earlier made it known in the interview that the crisis that followed Alhaji Atiku ‘s emergence in 2022 wasn’t properly handled by the leadership of the party. He didn’t blamed Ortom or the G5 governors for the crisis that followed the emergence.

Those who want to use the social media to cause crisis between Ortom and Suswam should stop spreading fake news against Suswam, he is in good terms with Ortom and at no time did he call for his suspension in the interview.
