Benue Rep, Achado urges Gov Alia to enforce anti-open grazing law

A member of the House of Representatives, Asema Achado has called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to enforce the state’s anti-open grazing law.

Achado, representing Gwer East/Gwer West, made the call in the wake of the tragic killing of 17 people in the Wa-Ndoo-Mbakyor community of Gwer East LGA.

During a condolence visit to the affected community, Achado stated the urgent need for the strict implementation of the open grazing prohibition law.

He further urged for the prosecution of those responsible for the attack, denouncing it as an “intolerable act of evil.”

Representatives from the Wa-Ndoo community, Zaki Sakuma Tov, and Sir Simon Kofi, president of the Mbaikyor community in the diaspora, commended Achado for his dedication and compassion towards the people of his constituency.

They expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown during the visit, particularly in the face of recent adversities caused by attacks.

Recall that the state government had issued a two-week ultimatum to herders grazing openly in the state, which ended on March 6, 2023.

The government had warned of implementing the anti-open grazing law after the ultimatum expired.
