We’ve recovered some arms of killed soldiers, traditional ruler being questioned – Army

The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs of the Nigerian Army, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, has said some arms and ammunition of the 17 soldiers killed in Okuama community in Oghelli South Local Government Area of Delta State have been recovered.

On March 14, some youths of Okuama community killed 17 soldiers on a peacekeeping mission.

But Ugbo said the search to recover all the ammunition of the murdered soldiers and arrest the suspects was still on.

He spoke during the Nigerian Army Civil-Military Cooperation Media Chat in Asaba, Delta State capital yesterday.

He said: “Arrests will be continually made; this is an issue under investigation, but l am telling you that our equipment, our arms and ammunition, we are still searching for them. We have got some, we have not got others, the search is continuing.”

Ugbo assured that the detained Ovie of Ewu Kingdom, HRM Clement Ikolo, is still under investigation.

Questions had been raised over the safety of the traditional ruler who turned him in to the Army instead of the police.

However, Ugbo assured of Ikolo’s safety.

He added: “The traditional ruler, l believe, is safe. They are still questioning him; he is still under investigation.

“Every other issue around Okuama is still under investigation and l assure you that at the end of the investigation, whatever will unfold will be brought to the fore.

“Everyone will be informed on the outcome of the investigation.”
