The Jigawa State Government has approved N1.1 billion for the emergency procurement of additional food items to alleviate the financial burden on civil servants in the state.
This was announced by the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa, during a briefing with journalists on Monday.
The commissioner revealed that the State Executive Council (SEC) approved the purchase of the food items as part of the government’s plan to establish cooperative shops across all 27 local government areas.
These shops, Musa said, will offer food items and other essential commodities to civil servants at reduced rates.
Musa further explained that modalities have been developed for the establishment and management of these cooperative shops.
“Civil servants will be able to collect food items on credit and pay back in instalments, easing the financial strain on their households,” Musa stated.
The Commissioner also disclosed that the state government had allocated N2.8 billion for this year’s Ramadan.
