Group storms PDP secretariat, demands Damagum’s resignation

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Reform Vanguard on Thursday stormed the party’s secretariat in Abuja to demand the immediate resignation of the party’s acting National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum.

The protest came hours to the PDP National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting scheduled for later today.

There are indications that Damagum may be named the next substantive chairman of the party.

This is, however, against the view of some party stakeholders who believed that the North Central must produce the replacement of the former national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

The youths also urged the party to sanction the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for alleged anti-party activities.

In his address, Usman Seidu, the convener of the PDP Reform Vanguard, said Damagum and Wike have “undermined our collective efforts and jeopardized our very existence as a formidable opposition force”.

“The presence of individuals like Amb. Iliya Damagum and Mr Nyesom Wike within our midst remains a cancerous growth on the body of our party.

“Ayu must be replaced with a loyal member from the North Central; someone who embodies the spirit of our party and will work tirelessly for the advancement of its course,” he said.
