Police: We’re investigating bomb explosion in Port Harcourt 

The Rivers State Police Command on Saturday commenced an investigation into the alleged plan by some elements to detonate an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Governor Sim Fubara had alleged that an attempt was made to detonate an IED at the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Fubara, however, said the attempted attack failed.

Speaking on the failed bomb attack, the spokesperson of the state Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said a suspected male was arrested in connection with the incident.

In a statement she signed, Iringe-Koko urged residents to remain calm as police detectives were actively pursuing leads to identify the sponsors.

“The command has launched a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the cause and circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event.

“We have identified one individual in connection with the explosion and urge residents to remain calm.

“Efforts are being made to gather crucial information and shed light on this situation.

“We thank the public for providing information, pictures, and videos to assist our ongoing investigation.

“Anyone who sees any suspicious object should evacuate the area immediately and promptly notify the police,” she said.
