Job Racketeering: NSCDC Officer, Tosin, Arraigned In Court Over N12.4m Fraud

An officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mrs Olagunju Comfort Tosin with service number 36161 been arraigned at the Federal High Court Abuja over fraud of N12.4 million with the pretense of providing jobs to Nigerians.

Mrs Tosin who is billed to appear before Court 3 of the Federal High Court Abuja on Wednesday for collecting N12.4 million naira with the pretense of giving them jobs from the year 2020, but it turns out to be a fraud.

Tosin is standing trial in a four count charge filed against her by the Inspector General of Police, through a legal counsel, Princewill Ele Esq.

The case, with file number FHC/ABJ/CR/183/2024, in the count 1, accused Mrs Olagunju Comfort, F of Karu site Abuja that sometimes between the year 2000 to 2023 within the Jurisdiction of the honourable court, obtained by false pretense and with intent to defraud Nigerians the sum of N12, 400,000.00 (Twelve Million Four Hundred Thousand Naira) in the presence that she has the capacity of securing employment with the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps for him and thereby defrauding him of N12, 400,000.00 (Twelve Million Four Hundred Thousand Naira, which the police say is punishable under section 1 (1) (c) of the Advance Free Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006.

The count 2 reads: “That you OLAGUNJU COMFORT F of Karu Site Abuja sometime between the your 2020 to 2023 within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did conspire with others to commit an office to wit: criminal conspiracy thereby commit an offense punishable under Section 97(1) of the Panel Code Act, 2004.”

The count three says, “That you OLAGUNJU COMFORT ‘F of Karu site Abuja sometime between the year 2020 2023 within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court being in any manner entrusted with services of securing employment with Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for Nigerians and dishonestly convert the sum of N12, 400,000.00 (Twelve Million Four hundred thousand naira to your own use in violation of the direction of law prescribing the mode in which such trust is to be discharged and thereby commit an offense contrary to section 311 and punishable under section 312 of the Penal Code Act 2004.”

The 4 count charge also said, “That you OLAGUNJU COMFORT Karu site Abuja sometime between the year 2000 to 2023 within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court fraudulently and dishonestly induced some Nigerians and part with the sum of N12, 400,000.00 (Twelve Million Four Hundred Thousand Naira) cheating him of the said sum and causing damage to him and thereby commit an offense contrary to section 320 and punishable under section 322 of the Penal Code Act 2004.”

Court documents showed that Olagunju Comfort Tosin was sued on 25 April 2024 and the court is set to take a decision on the matter on Wednesday where she will also be appearing.
