Bill to introduce Diaspora voting scales second reading

The House of Representatives has passed the Diaspora Voting Bill for second reading.

The bill, co-sponsored by the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen and Sodeeq Abdullahi, seeks to amend the 2022 Electoral Act and provide opportunities for Nigerians in Diaspora to vote.

Leading debate on the bill, Abdullahi said the proposed legislation will benefit every Nigerian outside the country.

“This bill will benefit all Nigerians, most especially the ones living outside Nigeria. It will save them the logistics of coming home to vote,” he said.

The bill was passed without opposition on the floor and referred to the House Committee on Electoral Matters.
