Zamfara APC crisis deepens as fourth faction emerges

The crisis in the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC, has deepened as a fourth faction led by a member of the House of Representatives, Aminu Sani Jaji, representing Birinin Magaji/Kaura Namoda Federal Constituency, has emerged.

According to reports, before the emergence of Jaji’s faction, former Governor of the state, Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, Minister of State, Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle and Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa were leading three different factions.

Findings by newsmen reveal that Jaji has commissioned his own secretariat, appointing the state vice chairman as the acting state chairman of the party.

He insists that the state chairman and members of his EXCO have been suspended.

However, all the four factions claim that their secretariats are the authentic Zamfara State APC headquarters.

Recently, Marafa addressed journalists in Kaduna State, saying that he has his own faction and secretariat in Zamfara State.

According to him, he could not join forces with former governors Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari and Bello Mohammed Matawalle who is now the Minister of State for Defense.

Recently, Yari gathered the leaders of the party in the state for reconciliation, but the meeting didn’t produce any result.

Few days after the meeting, Jaji commissioned the secretariat of his own faction opposite the residence of the State Commissioner of Police in Gusau, the state capital.

With the deepening crisis in the party, many people query the APC’s chances in Zamfara State in the 2027 election.

Recall that in 2019, similar internal crisis rocked the party in the state, leading to the formation of G8 Group which eventually denied the party the chances of forming government in the state.
