Communist leader Oli sworn in as Nepal’s prime minister

The Chairman of the largest communist party in Nepal, Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, has been sworn in as prime minister for the fourth time.

He took his oath of office administered by President Ram Chandra Paudel on Monday at a ceremony in Kathmandu.

Oli took over power after former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal lost a parliamentary vote of confidence on Friday, ending a tumultuous 20-month tenure.

The 72-year-old who is returning to power for the fourth time will have to face a vote of confidence to continue in office.

Oli will be leading a coalition of the Communist Party of Nepal, Unified Marxist-Leninist and the centrist Nepali Congress, the country’s largest party.
