SEDC: Bwala urges Tinubu to exercise caution with Southeast governors’ nominations

A former spokesman to ex-Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Daniel Bwala, on Monday urged President Bola Tinubu to be careful with the governor’s nomination for who heads the South East Development Commission, SEDC.

Bwala reminded Tinubu that governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Southeast had not done much to ensure the party had a stronghold in the region.

Posting on X, he wrote: “In consideration of who would head the South East Development Commission; and especially given the fact that APC needs a heavy-road to the southeast, which sadly the governors have not done much except Dave Umahi, I will request @officialABAT to be careful about nomination from any governor.”

In July, President Tinubu had assented to the SEDC bill.

The SEDC bill, which was co-sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, comprises Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.

The SEDC is expected to manage funds allocated from the Federation Account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, and other infrastructural deficits suffered by the Southeast region due to age-long neglect.

The SEDC will also tackle ecological problems and related environmental challenges that have devastated the Southeast for decades.
