The Nigerian Army says it has successfully eliminated two terrorists, arrested an armed criminal suspect, and seized arms and ammunition in preemptive operations conducted by the troops
In a statement on its social media handle, the Army said on 14 August, 2024, troops acting on credible intelligence on terrorists’ activities, carried out an ambush along Kwana Uri village in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
“In the fierce gun battle that ensued, the troops neutralized two of the terrorists, while the survivors scampered into nearby bushes,” it stated.
It said the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, 288 rounds of RG55 ammunition, 40 rounds of CJ 95 ammunition, six rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Baofeng communication radio and a motorcycle.
“In a separate operation in Plateau State, troops in a proactive move have arrested a suspected criminal at Ganawuri village of Riyom Local Government Area,” it said.
According to the statement, the suspect was found to illegitimately possess a fabricated automatic rifle.
“The elimination of the two terrorists, the recovery of a significant cache of ammunition, and the proactive interception of an armed criminal suspect during these operations highlight the Nigerian Army’s relentless commitment to combating security challenges to restore peace in troubled parts of the country,” it said.
