Kaduna electoral commission screens 76 chairmanship candidates

The Chairman of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission, KSIECOM, Hajiya Hajara Mohammed says 76 candidates from 10 political parties have been screened for the forthcoming local government election in the state.

Mohammed made the disclosure while briefing newsmen at the end of the screening exercise organised by the Commission for chairmanship candidates.

“The Commission has successfully screened 76 chairmanship candidates from 10 out of 19 registered political parties in Nigeria,” she said.

Mohammed further assured that the Commission would display the names of the candidates that scaled through, as well as those disqualified, on September 20, 2024.

She added that election guidelines would be distributed to various political parties registered for the elections.

Assuring that the election will hold as scheduled on 19th October 2024, she appealed to the candidates and the political parties to abide by the election guidelines and avoid any act that may lead to breakdown of law and order before, during and after the polls.

Mohammed also called on the voters to come out en masse on election day to vote candidates of their choice.

Earlier, the chairmanship candidate of the Labour Party in Kagarko LGA, Mr Daniel Paul, expressed satisfaction with the screening exercise conducted by the state electoral body.

He also urged the Commission to maintain the policy of fairness from the beginning of the process to the end of the announcement of results.
