PDP hails Ondo Assembly over rejection of supplementary budget, says Finance Commissioner now ‘thin god ‘

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ondo State chapter has hailed the members of the state House of Assembly for halting the process of passing the 2024 supplementary budget into law.

According to the opposition party, the courage exhibited by the lawmakers deserves commendation, particularly that the N487,437 billion supplementary budget proposal was a ploy by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to mobilise funds to prosecute the forthcoming off-cycle governorship election.

The legislature had on Thursday stepped down the request of the governor to give a nod to the supplementary budget following the failure of the Commissioner for Finance in the state, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac, to honour the invitation sent to her.

While describing the Finance Commissioner as a ‘thin god’, the PDP, in a statement by its publicity secretary in the state, Kennedy Peretei, stated that, “the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State Chapter, salutes the courage of the legislators for rejecting this amendment bill, coming barely a month to the governorship election in the state.

“Our party believes that the N487,437B requested is a decoy to mobilise funds to prosecute the governorship election, having failed tragically in all areas of governance to deliver the dividends of democracy after being in office as governor for ten months.

“Our party wishes to admonish the Governor and his appointees to be accountable and use the remaining few months of their tenure to make life more meaningful for the people of the state.”
