Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has fully funded the bride price for 300 couples, amounting to N54 million, as part of a mass wedding initiative spearheaded by his wife’s NANAS Foundation.
The grand ceremony took place at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace in Birnin Kebbi, drawing high-profile dignitaries. The Foundation also provided essential household items, including beds, duvets, furniture, food supplies, and starter packs to help the grooms establish their new homes.
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, served as the representative (Wakili) for the grooms, while the Emir of Gwandu, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Iliyasu-Bashar (rtd), stood in as Waliyi for the brides.
Islamic clerics, including Sheik Muktar Abdullahi (Walin Gwandu), Malam Ahmad S. Pawa (Imam of Jakolo Mosque), and Malam Muhammad (Imam of Wala Mosque), officiated the marriage rites following the payment of N180,000 as dowry for each bride.
During the ceremony, the clerics emphasized the importance of marital responsibilities, urging the grooms to uphold the principles of marriage as outlined in the Holy Qur’an. Governor Idris, addressing the newlyweds, encouraged them to cherish their unions and build harmonious homes based on love and mutual respect.
