Kidnapped Female Tarka Varsity Students Regain Freedom

Benue State Police Command has announced the release of the three female students of the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi (JOSTUM) who were kidnapped within the school premises by unknown gunmen on Tuesday at about 8 pm.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Catherine Anene, who disclosed this in a statement, informed that “on the 26/02/2025 at about 2134hrs information was received from JOSTUM that students were kidnapped within the school premises by unknown gunmen and in a Swift reaction, a team of police officers were deployed for investigation.

“According to her,” During the investigation, it was gathered that three(3) female students were held hostage by their kidnappers.

She said, “On 5/3/2025, following the continuous trail of the kidnappers, the victims were released at about 2134hrs and are currently receiving medical attention at Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Makurdi.

The police spokesperson said an investigation into the mystery of the incident is ongoing.

She quoted the Commissioner of Police, Benue State, CP Steve Yabanet, commending all officers involved in the operation, particularly the IGP Intelligence Response Team from Abuja and other security agencies in Benue State, for their commitment to this investigation. The CP pledged his commitment to arrest perpetrators of this heinous crime.
