Ex-council chair stabbed to death in Bauchi

Tragedy struck in Bauchi on Thursday as a former chairman of Jama’are Local Government Area, Isa Muhammad Wabi, was gruesomely murdered.

The 66-year-old politician was found in a bloody state at his Fadaman Mada residence, behind Government Girls Secondary School, Bauchi around 4 am after a distress call from a Good Samaritan jolted police into action.

A crime  bulletin issued by the spokesman of the Bauchi State Police Command, Mohammed Wakil, a Superintendent of Police (SP), revealed yesterday that Isa Wabi was allegedly attacked by his son’s friends — Ahmad Abdulkadir a.k.a. Abba and Faruk Malami a.k.a. Ajebo — who allegedly stormed the house around 3 a.m. and stabbed him multiple times in the neck.

“On the early morning of 2nd May 2025, at about 0403 hours, the police command received a distress call from a Good Samaritan concerning an incident involving an attack by a group of youths at Fadaman Mada, located behind Government Girls Secondary School Bauchi.

“In response, a dedicated team of officers was dispatched to the scene. They found Mr Isa Muhammad Wabi, a 66-year-old former Chairman of Jama’are LGA, in critical condition due to injuries sustained in the attack.

“He was promptly evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi for urgent medical attention.”

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances of his son, Abdulgafar Isa Mohammed, aged 24.

“The investigation suggests that Ahmad Abdulkadir, also known as Abba, and Faruk Malami, referred to as Ajebo, had entered the home around 0300 hours and subsequently conspired to assault Mr. Wabi.

“He sustained multiple stab wounds to the neck.”

According to the bulletin, Ajebo, one of the suspects, was also found unconscious at the crime scene — reportedly beaten by an angry resident — and later died in hospital.

Wabi’s son, Abdulgafar Isa Mohammed, 24, was said to be in police custody cooperating with investigators.

The bulletin also revealed that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu, visited the bereaved family, promising that no stone would be left unturned in bringing all culprits to justice.

Meanwhile, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has called for a thorough police investigation into the shocking assassination of the former Jama’are Local Government Council Chairman.

Governor Mohammed, on behalf of the state government and its citizens, expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Jama’are Emirate and all those who were impacted by Wabi’s life of service, humility and dedication to community development.

In a statement  issued by the  his Special Adviser on  Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Mohammed condemned the shocking incident, calling for a thorough, unbiased investigation by the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies to ensure swift justice for the perpetrators.

“This tragic loss is not only a blow to the Wabi family but to the entire state,” he said.

The governor also appealed to parents and guardians across the state to focus on the moral upbringing of their children, stressing the need to address the deterioration of societal values to prevent similar tragedies.

The governor prayed for the soul of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Wabi to find peace in Aljanna Firdaus and for his family to have the strength to endure the immense loss.
