I’m ready to serve, says Mohammed Babangida

  • BOA chairman-designate blames rumoured rejection of appointment on foes

A son of former military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), Mr. Mohammed Babangida, has denied rejecting the recent appointment President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave him as the Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

The Federal Government announced the appointment last week alongside seven others.

The social media was awash yesterday with a letter purportedly written by Babangida rejecting his appointment.

In the letter, purportedly written to President Tinubu and leaked to some social media platforms, Babangida expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him but cited personal and professional reasons for turning down the role.

But in a swift reaction through the Ibrahim Babangida Media Office in Minna, the Niger State capital, Babangida described the circulating letter as fake and politically motivated.

In a telephone interview, the spokesman of the Babangida Media Office, Mahmud Abdullahi, dismissed the letter as fake.

He said when Mohammed saw the purported letter of his rejection, he waved it off as the handiwork of mischief makers.

Abdullahi said: “It is a concocted letter from disgruntled elements. I am ready to serve as the chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.”

The spokesman stressed that after properly scrutinising the purported letter of rejection, “we discovered that the signature on the letter was not Mohammed Babangida’s. We also discovered that the telephone number on the letterhead does not correlate with his number.

“There is no truth in that letter. The members of the public should disregard it”.
