Governor Diri, IGP Back Sukubo’s Re-Election, Advocate Greater Youth Inclusion

Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo has secured a decisive re-election victory as President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) for a second four-year term. The NYCN 2026 National Elective Congress, held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, saw Sukubo garner an impressive 756 votes, dwarfing his closest rivals – Elizabeth Olawande from the South-West who secured 32 votes and Husseini Mohammed from the North with 11 votes. Three other presidential aspirants notably stepped down in support of Sukubo, underscoring his strong appeal among youth leaders.

In his acceptance speech, Sukubo expressed profound gratitude to key Nigerian leaders for their backing, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, and Engineer Tein Jack-Rich. Sukubo, President Belema Group pledged to intensify efforts on youth development and empowerment initiatives, urging the National Assembly to expedite action on the National Youth Council Bill to provide a robust legislative framework for NYCN’s impactful projects.
