The Nigeria Inter-Tribal and Inter-Religion Alliance for Peace, Unity and Development has refuted a “false and incendiary allegations” made against Major General Michael Enenche Onoja of the Nigerian Army.
In a social media post, including Facebook, Maria Ogbanna Eke, falsely claimed that, General Onoja is involved in atrocities in the South-Eastern region. For the purpose of clarity, it should be noted that General Onoja serves as Defence Director of Media Operations, a strictly administrative role under the Chief of Defence Staff.
“The claims are false, malicious, reckless, and unsupported by any verifiable evidence,” said Aaron Mike Odeh, National Publicity Secretary of the Alliance. “The publication appears deliberately crafted to inflame ethnic tension, incite public disorder, and undermine national cohesion.
“This is not mere blackmail, but a calculated provocation and threat to public peace and national unity,” Odeh stated. The Alliance demands the author(s) retract the allegations and issue a public apology through three national newspapers.
“Nigeria is governed by the rule of law, not mob accusations or social-media trials,” Odeh emphasised.
The Alliance will seek lawful redress if the allegations aren’t retracted. General Onoja’s office hasn’t conducted arrests, military operations, or field deployments, making the allegations misleading and dangerous.
