The Court of Appeal has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to promote 40 police chief inspectors who were unfairly excluded from a previous amnesty promotion exercise.

According to the ruling, the affected officers met all the required conditions for promotion but were left out of the exercise without justifiable reasons. The court held that the exclusion was discriminatory and inconsistent with principles of fairness and equal treatment within the police service.

The judges ordered the IGP to immediately take steps to promote the officers to their rightful ranks and ensure that they enjoy all associated benefits. This decision is expected to correct the injustice suffered by the officers and restore confidence in the promotion process within the police force.

The ruling also sends a strong message to public institutions on the need to uphold transparency, fairness, and due process in administrative decisions, particularly those affecting the careers and welfare of public servants.
