APGA begs Soludo to fire underperforming appointees

Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance in Anambra State, Ben Obi, also known as “Igwe APGA”, has advised the Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, not to retain non-performing commissioners and advisers in his second term of office.

Obi said non-performing commissioners and advisers constitute over 80 per cent of Soludo’s cabinet, and as he prepares to commence his second term from March 17, 2026, he should sack them for non-performance and appoint fresh hands.

He stated this in a press statement issued on Saturday, adding that similarly, all the incumbent chairmen of the 21 local government areas and councillors should be disqualified in the build-up towards the August 29, Anambra LGA polls.

He said, “As the governor prepares to commence his second term in office on March 17, he should sack non-performing commissioners and advisers, who constitute over 80 per cent in his cabinet.

“Similarly, all the incumbent chairmen of the 21 local government areas and councillors should be disqualified in the build-up towards the August 29, Anambra LGA polls.

“Anambra State and APGA as a party do not lack human capacity; there are too many qualified people in the queue.

“The sacking of non-performing commissioners and LG chairmen who have always been telling people that they are not getting anything from the position they occupy, will give room for fresh hands who are more capable, and this will enhance productivity as new hands with new ideas will join the ‘Solution government’.

“This, in turn, will enhance the reward system of the party. So many LG chairmen failed abysmally, and allowing them to continue is to enthrone mediocrity.”

The APGA chieftain also stressed the need for the LGAs election aspirants screening panels in all local government areas to be trained and given appropriate guidelines to make sure that aspiring chairmen and councillors are true APGA faithful and are qualified without questionable certificates.

He, however, tasked Soludo, APGA National Chairman and Anambra State Chairman as well as the Special Adviser to Soludo on Political Matters, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, to take proper note of his submission, asserting that government is all about the enthronement of meritocracy, not mediocrity.
