Controversy brews as Tony Perkins accuses Remi Tinubu of trying to mute criticism

American television host and conservative commentator, Tony Perkins, has revealed that Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, once approached him to discuss issues of religious freedom in Nigeria, but he declined the request.

Perkins said he rejected the move because he did not want his media platform to be used to “cover up” realities and ongoing challenges in the country.

Speaking during a recent broadcast, the U.S. broadcaster explained that while discussions around religious freedom are important, he was not comfortable engaging in conversations that could downplay or obscure what he described as serious issues affecting Nigerians.

According to him, granting such access would amount to lending credibility to narratives that do not fully reflect the situation on ground.

“I was approached, but I declined,” Perkins stated, adding that his platform must remain independent and truthful, especially when addressing sensitive global issues.
