Rivers governor Fubara cautions new appointees against abuse of office and unauthorised meetings, threatens sanctions for violations.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has warned the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, and Chief of Staff, Mr. Sunny Ewule, against abuse of office and participation in unauthorised or nocturnal meetings.
The governor issued the warning during the swearing-in ceremony of the two officials in Port Harcourt, stressing that he would not hesitate to dismiss any appointee whose conduct embarrasses his administration.
“This appointment is not for political empowerment. It is to help this administration succeed. Any action capable of creating problems or embarrassing this government will attract sanctions,” Fubara said.
Addressing the new SSG, the governor urged Dr. Wokoma to deploy his academic and professional experience with objectivity, diligence and commitment to duty, adding that he must represent the state government honourably and contribute meaningfully to its development agenda.
He charged the SSG to ensure the completion of ongoing and inherited projects in ways that promote sustainable development across the state.
Turning to the Chief of Staff, Fubara described the position as one requiring discipline and trust, warning against engaging in unauthorised meetings or political activities without clearance.
“You work directly under me as my personal aide. If you begin to hold meetings or involve yourself in nocturnal political activities, I will sack you,” he cautioned.
The governor reiterated that peace, progress and prosperity remain the central priorities of his administration and said he would no longer overlook acts of indiscipline or misconduct by public officials.
While congratulating the appointees, he expressed confidence in their ability to deliver on their mandates, emphasising the need for loyalty, professionalism and teamwork.
Fubara also addressed developments in the civil service, directing retired permanent secretaries to promptly submit their handover notes.
He disclosed that a review team would be constituted to scrutinise the offices of permanent secretaries as part of efforts to strengthen efficiency and create opportunities for institutional growth.
Reaffirming his leadership philosophy, the governor called for unity and collective responsibility in governance, stressing that meaningful progress can only be achieved through cooperation.
