ADC Defies Venue Setbacks, Holds Convention Despite Cooling System Failure

Dino Melaye declares ADC convention will proceed despite venue obstacles, failed cooling systems and alleged pressure on organisers.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has gone ahead with its convention in Abuja despite venue challenges and the failure of air conditioning systems, leaving delegates in uncomfortable conditions.

The convention is being held at the Rainbow Event Centre after the party said it was denied access to both the Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The ADC had initially planned to use the two major public venues but later announced a switch to the Rainbow Event Centre following the setbacks.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, alleged that the management of the new venue was under pressure to cancel the booking.

At the convention on Tuesday, former Kogi senator, Dino Melaye, expressed frustration over the situation but insisted the event would proceed.

“We are using this place by force,” Melaye said.

“After paying for this place, signing contractual agreements, they refused to let us use it. We don’t know where to turn on the central air conditioners.

“But we are working on getting the ACs on. Even if it is in a motor park, the convention will hold today. They don’t want it to hold, but by the grace of God, the convention will hold today.”

With cooling systems not functioning, delegates were seen contending with heat at the venue, while efforts were made to improve conditions.

Melaye added that fans were being brought in to provide relief as proceedings continued.

The party maintained that the convention would hold as scheduled, despite the disruptions and logistical difficulties encountered.
