Gakpo, Brobbey Fire Netherlands To 5–1 Win Over Sweden

Netherlands overpower Sweden with two goals each from Brobbey and Gakpo, sealing a commanding five-goal victory.

The Netherlands defeated Sweden in a dominant Group F display, with Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo both scoring braces to inspire a convincing victory.

Netherland came into the game with a little more intensity than Sweden, They have largely controlled the contest since taking the lead in the 5th minute through Brian brobbery, and forcing Sweden to spend longer periods without possession, leaving Sweden struggling to establish sustained periods of pressure despite posing an occasional threat in the game.

Netherlands stretched their lead further in the 17th minute, also by Brian Brobbey, and Dumfries who assisted with a pass into the box for him to finish into the net, further intensifiying the pressure on Sweden.

Brobbey’s brace not only contributed to the Netherlands’ victory but also increased his international goal tally to three for the Oranje. The Dutchman has scored 1 goal for the Netherlands senior national team in 10 appearances, his first and only international goal came in a 1–1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in November 2024.

Sweden thought they pulled one back in the 45th minute by Lagerbielke, but was immediately declared offside after a quick VAR call. The Swedes felt like they were going to do something in the final 4 added minutes of the first half as they were getting clear cut chances, but the Dutch keeper, Verbruggen had it all other control till the half time whistle.

The Dutchmen struck again in the 47th minute, with a wing pass from Dumfries to Cody Gakpo into the box, who took a shot into the net. Gakpo scored again minutes later, with an assist from Summerville who just got subbed on, stretching the goal margin to 4-0 for the Netherlands, and also reaching 21 goals in 50 senior international appearances for the Netherlands.

Sweden managed to get a goal in the 59th minute, through Anthony Elanga who scored in just a minute after being subbed on, and an assist from Isak.

The Netherlands netted their fifth goal in the 89th minute through Summerville who took a shot from outside the box, sealing their five star performance with a five goal win.

The Dutch will turn their attention to Tunisia in their final group-stage match, where they will look to strengthen their position and potentially secure qualification to the knockout rounds.
