Isiguzo Advocates Responsible Journalism, Applauds Security Agencies’ Sacrifices

Chris Isiguzo, former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has commended Nigeria’s security agencies for their efforts in safeguarding lives and maintaining stability across the country.

Speaking at the National Security Summit organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Isiguzo said the ability to convene such a gathering in the nation’s capital reflected the ongoing work being carried out by security personnel.

He urged the media to exercise caution and balance in reporting and criticising the country’s security situation, stressing that security operatives are individuals working under difficult and complex conditions.

According to him, security operatives are also relatives of people -fathers, uncles, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters, who continue to give their best within the circumstances they found themselves and therefore deserve encouragement alongside constructive scrutiny.

Isiguzo further advocated regular engagement between heads of security agencies and media executives, noting that such interactions would help promote better understanding of security realities and provide context that may not always be reflected in public reports.
