Fresh footage of veteran actor Hanks Anuku has reignited public concern over his welfare as the Actors Guild remains silent.
Fresh concern has erupted over the well-being of veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku after a video showing him lying on a street in an apparent state of distress surfaced online and quickly went viral.
The footage has reignited public debate about the actor’s welfare, with onlookers in the video expressing concern and urging intervention, while others speculated about the cause of his condition. The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) had yet to issue an official statement on the latest development as of the time of filing this report.
In the video, one woman appealed for immediate intervention, saying: “You guys should do something. This is very important.”
The footage shows Anuku dressed in a black shirt, blue jeans and red sneakers, appearing disoriented and speaking to himself as a crowd gathered around him.
Another individual in the video alleged that substance abuse could be responsible for the actor’s condition. However, no evidence was provided to support the claim, and it has not been independently verified.
The latest incident has revived memories of a similar episode in 2022, when footage circulated online showing the actor wandering the streets in tattered clothing.
At the time, Anuku dismissed the reports, insisting the footage was taken on a movie set and accusing those behind its circulation of attempting to tarnish his reputation.
Actress Shan George also defended the veteran actor, insisting he was mentally stable and stating that he was “not insane.”
Her position was, however, challenged by actress Adanma Luke, prompting the Actors Guild of Nigeria to launch an investigation into the conflicting claims.
Speaking in 2024 about the impact of the earlier viral video, Anuku said the incident had severely affected both his personal life and career.
According to the actor, the footage “ruined” his career, resulting in strained friendships, financial hardship and a sharp decline in acting opportunities.
