ADC chairman Sani Gumel says growing grassroots support will help opposition party defeat APC and take over Jigawa in 2027.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed confidence that it will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections and form the next government in Jigawa State.
The ADC State Chairman, Dr Sani Muhammad Gumel, stated this while speaking with THISDAY in Dutse over the weekend, insisting that the APC’s incumbency would not prevent the opposition party from taking over the state.
According to him, the political landscape in Jigawa was changing, with growing support for the ADC across different segments of the electorate.
Gumel said the party was building a strong grassroots structure and mobilising stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that the ADC would win the three senatorial seats, 11 House of Representatives seats and 31 State House of Assembly seats in the state.
The chairman maintained that the people would judge the APC administration based on its performance and would not vote for the ruling party merely because it was in power.
“Incumbency is not a guarantee of victory. What matters is the confidence of the people, the credibility of the candidates and the ability to provide good governance,” he said.
Gumel said the ADC was determined to provide Jigawa voters with an alternative political platform anchored on accountability, transparency, economic development and improved welfare.
He said the party had attracted members from different political parties who, according to him, had come together under the ADC to wrest power from the APC.
“We have real and genuine politicians with grassroots support in our party. With credible candidates in all the positions, we are optimistic that ADC will take over power in Jigawa State come 2027,” he said.
The chairman urged members and supporters of the party to remain united and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
He assured that the ADC would continue to engage political stakeholders and residents across the state as part of efforts to build a broad coalition capable of challenging the APC.
Gumel said the party was optimistic that the 2027 election would provide Jigawa voters with an opportunity to make a fresh political choice.
He also urged residents of the state, particularly young people and women, to participate actively in the democratic process and ensure that their votes counted during the election.
The ADC chairman added that the party would unveil more details of its political strategy and programmes as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
