Dolly Parton is laid to rest in a private Nashville ceremony, bringing her nearly 60-year love story with Carl Dean full circle.
Country music legend Dolly Parton has been laid to rest in a private ceremony at a Nashville cemetery where her husband, Carl Dean, was buried last year.
The singer was interred on Friday at Woodlawn Memorial Park, following a small service held in accordance with her wishes, according to a remembrance shared by her great-niece, Lainey Parton. “This is a really hard post for me to make. I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words,” Lainey wrote on social media.
She said Parton had always treated her extended family as her own, adding that the singer’s absence would be deeply felt.
“Because she couldn’t have kids of her own, she always made us feel like we were hers. She loved us that way, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”
Lainey also reflected on her personal relationship with the country star.
“I feel incredibly lucky that I got to call her my granny. Thank you for always believing in me, loving me, and making me feel like I could do anything,” she said.
She concluded her tribute with a simple farewell: “I love you, Granny. Always.”
Parton died on 25 August, aged 79, after a career spanning more than six decades as a singer, songwriter, actor, philanthropist and businesswoman.
Woodlawn Memorial Park is one of Nashville’s major cemeteries and is the final resting place of several prominent country music figures, including Porter Wagoner, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Eddy Arnold and Marty Robbins.
But Parton’s connection to the cemetery was also deeply personal.
Her husband of almost 60 years, Carl Dean, was buried there in 2025. Dean, who largely stayed out of the spotlight during their marriage, died in March 2025.
According to People, Dean was interred in a mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park bearing a large plaque with both his and Parton’s names, alongside their wedding date.
Parton and Dean married in 1966 and remained together for almost six decades, despite Parton’s global fame and Dean’s preference for a private life.
Her burial at the same cemetery means the couple now rests in the same final resting place, bringing an end to one of country music’s longest marriages.
Parton’s death prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow musicians, celebrities and fans around the world, with many highlighting her influence on country music and her reputation for generosity and philanthropy.
