ASUU says NSUK lecturers are owed over ₦8bn and warns its strike will continue unless Nasarawa Government provides settlement framework.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nasarawa State University, Keffi NSUK, branch, has appealed Nasarawa state governor Abdulllahi Sule to urgently intervene and review the University’s funding arrangement and provide a sustainable financial framework, vowing that unless it demands are met otherwise the ongoing industrial action continue.
In a statement which was co-signed by Dr. Zubairu Abdulmumini-Loko Chairperson, ASUU NSUK and Gambo Dauda secretary, ASUU NSUK Branch and obtained by our correspondent in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, says unless and until there is a credible and acceptable framework capable of resolving these issues, the resolution of the congress to sustain the ongoing strike remains in force.
It also calls for a written, comprehensive and time-bound payment plan jointly developed by the relevant authorities and communicated transparently to the Union, nothing that this will enable NSUK to discharge its statutory responsibilities effectively.
The statement, however, urges Management and the Governing Council to intensify their engagement with the State Government and other relevant authorities and produce a clear, comprehensive, written and time-bound template for settling the outstanding five months’ arrears and other liabilities.
Our correspondent reports that the union is agitating for five months’ Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance CATA, N1,640,000,000.00, Earned Academic Allowance EAA, arrears for 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021, N2,084,050,084.29, 25% and 35% Salary Increment arrears: N2,857,253,022.25
Others are N70,000 Minimum Wage arrears N533,880,000.00, N35,000 Wage Award arrears: N578,935,000.00, 2025 Promotion arrears and Annual Increment: N239,108,310.54.
While deeply regret the disruption that the ongoing industrial action has caused to academic activities, it calls for the immediate constitution of a credible engagement involving the Nasarawa State Government, University Management, Governing Council and the Union
