Omi Eko Project Management says technical assessments, engineering designs and procurement processes are underway before major construction begins.
The Omi Eko Project Management has defended the implementation of the Lagos waterways transportation project, saying preparatory work must precede major construction activities.
The management was responding to an online report alleging that seven months after the project’s launch, no physical infrastructure had been delivered.
In a statement signed by its Head of Communications and Media, Dr Segun Alabi, the project management described the report as misleading, saying it failed to recognise the processes required to deliver infrastructure projects of such scale and complexity.
“The absence of visible physical structures at an early stage should therefore not be misconstrued as an absence of progress,” the statement said.
The management said the project follows a structured process involving planning and procurement, design, infrastructure development, implementation and evaluation.
It said these stages are necessary to ensure the project is technically sound, financially responsible and environmentally sustainable.
The statement added that major construction activities require extensive technical assessments, detailed engineering designs, procurement processes and stakeholder engagement.
The Omi Eko Project is designed to modernise Lagos State’s waterways transportation system and deliver a safer, more efficient and environmentally sustainable transport network for residents.
The management urged the public and media practitioners to verify information through official channels before sharing reports about the project’s implementation.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the successful delivery of the project for the benefit of Lagos residents.
