Tambuwal Demands Probe Into Reported Attack On Sokoto ADC Governorship Candidate

Tambuwal condemns the reported attack on Manir Dan’iya’s convoy, demanding an impartial investigation and accountability for those responsible.

Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has condemned the reported attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in the state, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, calling for a swift and impartial investigation.

Dan’iya had alleged that personnel of the Sokoto Marshal and the Sokoto State Community Guard attacked his convoy around the Sokoto Airport on Friday, October 30, 2026, firing gunshots, damaging his vehicle and threatening his life.

Reacting to the incident in a statement issued on Saturday through his media office, Tambuwal described the allegations as “deeply disturbing” and called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, independent and impartial investigation.

He urged the security agencies to ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice.

Tambuwal said every Nigerian had the right to move freely, associate with any political party and seek political office in accordance with the law.

“No citizen should face threats, violence or harassment for exercising these rights,” he said.

The senator urged political actors to embrace peaceful engagement rather than resort to violence, declaring, “Let the people speak through their votes, not through arms.”

He stressed that security outfits had a responsibility to protect all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations, warning that they must never become instruments of political intimidation.

“Security outfits have a responsibility to protect all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, and must never become instruments of political intimidation,” he said.

Tambuwal also called on the Sokoto State Government to ensure that all security outfits under its authority operated lawfully and impartially.

Despite the reported incident, the former governor said the ADC would proceed with its scheduled presidential campaign flag-off in Sokoto on November 4, 2026.

“Let it be clear: no amount of intimidation or threats will deter us,” he declared.

He urged ADC members and supporters to remain calm, exercise restraint and remain resolute in their commitment to democratic participation.

“Sokoto belongs to all its people, and Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians,” Tambuwal said.

He reaffirmed that democracy must protect the right of every citizen to participate freely in the political process without fear.
