Onyema Hails Fidelity Bank’s $400M Eurobond Repayment, Praises Onyeali-Ikpe’s Leadership

Allen Onyema commends Fidelity Bank for repaying its $400 million Eurobond from internal liquidity and completing recapitalisation ahead of schedule.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr Allen Onyema, has congratulated Fidelity Bank Plc on the successful repayment of its $400 million Eurobond at maturity, describing the achievement as a demonstration of financial strength, institutional discipline and effective leadership.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of Air Peace Limited, Onyema praised the bank for fulfilling its financial obligations throughout the five-year tenure of the Eurobond.

He particularly commended Fidelity Bank’s decision to finance the repayment entirely from internal liquidity, describing the move as evidence of the institution’s financial resilience and prudent management.

Onyema attributed the achievement to the strategic leadership of Fidelity Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, whom he credited with strengthening the bank’s financial position and reputation within Nigeria’s banking sector.

The Air Peace Chairman maintained that the repayment reflected the bank’s commitment to meeting its obligations and sustaining confidence in its financial operations.

He also congratulated Fidelity Bank on completing its recapitalisation ahead of the deadline stipulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to Onyema, the successful Eurobond repayment and early completion of the recapitalisation exercise demonstrated the bank’s commitment to sound corporate governance, institutional stability and sustainable financial management.

He noted that the achievements were particularly significant given the importance of financially resilient banks to Nigeria’s broader economy.

Highlighting the relationship between banking and aviation, Onyema stressed that access to reliable financing remained essential for the growth and sustainability of capital-intensive industries.

He explained that aviation operators depend on strong financial institutions to support fleet development, maintain operational stability and pursue long-term expansion.

The Air Peace Chairman argued that financially sound banks such as Fidelity Bank played an important role in creating opportunities for indigenous enterprises to grow and compete effectively.

He maintained that stronger partnerships between Nigerian financial institutions and domestic businesses were essential to improving the country’s economic competitiveness.

According to him, such partnerships could contribute to sustainable industrial growth and support Nigeria’s broader development objectives.

Onyema also praised the Fidelity Bank Board and management for what he described as their commitment to institutional discipline and long-term financial sustainability.

He expressed confidence that the bank would continue to record significant achievements under Onyeali-Ikpe’s leadership.

The Air Peace Chairman extended his congratulations to the entire Fidelity Bank workforce, acknowledging their contribution to the institution’s performance.

He reaffirmed Air Peace’s goodwill towards Fidelity Bank and wished the institution continued growth, financial stability and further accomplishments in Nigeria’s financial services industry.
