Former Manchester City defender, Pablo Zabaleta has picked his greatest footballers of all time after Argentina beat France on penalties to win the Qatar 2022 World Cup on Sunday.
The Argentinian believes his compatriots Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi are the greatest footballers of all time.
Zabaleta made the claim on BBC after Messi led Argentina to the World Cup victory in Qatar.
Messi has now won every single trophy football has to offer, including the Champions League, Club World Cup trophies.
And he finally got his hands on the World Cup in his final appearance in the competition.
Many football lovers believe that his victory on Sunday has put to rest the argument of who is the greatest player of all-time between the 35-year-old and greatest rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi and Angel Di Maria scored one each in the first half to give Argentina a deserved 2-0 lead at half-time.
But Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Kylian Mbappe entered the fray in the second half, scoring twice in 90 seconds to put France back on level terms and dragged the game to extra-time.
Messi scored again early in the second half of extra-time but Mbappe responded with three minutes to the end of the game to take it to a penalty shootout which Argentina won 4-2.
“It’s one of those moments. I was just looking at Messi and I know what it means for the players. Well done to France and Mbappe.
“For our country, we will see a picture of Maradona and Messi, two of the greatest players of all time with the World Cup trophy. That is something so incredible. We are so lucky.”
