A Magistrate Court sitting in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State have sent a fifty-six-year-old man identified as Collins to prison in Sapele over the alleged defilement of a minor.
The suspect allegedly committed the offence early in 2023.
He was arrested in a hotel at Osubi Community in his attempt to bribe a human rights activist, Israel Joe to close the matter for him.
A police medical report had confirmed that the 10-year-old girl (name withheld) was actually defiled by the man.
The report, which revealed that the victim’s hymen was broken, recommended that the girl be treated for infections.
Israel Joe, the activist, hailed the Delta State Police Command led by CP Ari Muhammed Ali for standing on the path of truth and for ensuring that justice prevailed in the matter.
Joe also hailed the court for its unbiased stance on the matter saying, “Truly, the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.”
He said this should serve as a deterrent to other rapists as he warned them to turn to lifestyles devoid of violence.
