Caution your wards to shun violence, thuggery – Gov Buni tasks parents, traditional rulers

As Nigerians are gearing up for the presidential and national assembly elections, the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has tasked politicians, opinion leaders, traditional rulers and parents to caution their wards and youth to shun violence and thuggery before, during and after the elections.

Buni gave the charge via his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, in a statement issued to newsmen in Damaturu on Wednesday.

The Governor maintained that Yobe State has a tradition of peaceful elections, hence that should be sustained to promote peace and harmony in the state.

He stated also that there is no election that is worth the blood of any citizen, noting that democracy and good governance can only thrive when there is peace and peaceful coexistence.

“Political differences must never cause hate and chaos among the good people of the state.

“We remain brothers and sisters in spite of our political differences.

“These differences should not be used to divide us, we should therefore play the game peacefully according to rules”, Buni admonished.

As the state is recovering from protracted security challenge, the Governor stressed that the citizens have a responsibility to promote peace and security across the state, while directing security operatives to watch out for black spots for a proactive approach.

Buni warned that the law will be allowed to take its course on all election offenders, persons or groups who go against the laws.

“I also call on our religious leaders and everyone to pray for a peaceful and successful election in our State and Nigeria generally”, Buni appealed.
