2023: GPMI hails Armed Forces, Police over peaceful conduct of elections

Global Peace Movement International, UK hailed the armed forces and the police for their roles in the peaceful conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections.

In a press statement President General of the group, Dr. Mike Uyi said all security agencies lived above board, thereby contributing to peaceful outcome of the elections.

Uyi said before the elections, there were ominous signs that there would be violence, blood shed and all sorts electoral malpractices across the country, but surprisingly the armed forces lived up to expectations as they conducted themselves in very a professional and responsible manner beyond our imaginations.

He commended the security forces for their “neutrality, impartiality, and professionalism” throughout the exercise.

According to him, their presence went a long way to reducing tension and giving electorate confidence and security to go all out and cast their votes for their preferred candidates.

He said: “We commend the military for the massive presence which helped in maintaining absolute peace, making it possible for voters to come out and perform their civic responsibilities.

“That the elections have come and gone is a testament to the fact that democracy has indeed come to stay in Nigeria”.

According to Uyi, this is on the heels that there were several attempts by agents of destabilisation to truncate the process, but for the intervention and professionalism of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

GPMI implored the leadership of the armed forces not to be tired in the discharge of their duties during the post-election period.

“They must continue to serve as the bastion of our democracy by ensuring that all threats posed by non-state actors and other criminal elements across the country are neutralized with the overarching objective of peace and tranquillity,” he added.
