Tenant Arraigned For Assaulting Landlady Over Electricity Bill

A 46-year-old tenant, Usman Hammed, on Thursday appeared in Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly assaulting his landlady, Josephine Durodola, over electricity bill.

During court proceedings, the Prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 8, 2023 at around 9pm at No. 25, Olaniyi Street, Agiliti, Mile 12, Lagos.

Perezi said that the defendant assaulted the complainant after she demanded payment of the electricity bill and hit her head against an iron gate which caused her great pain and she was hospitalised.

He added that the offences contravened Sections 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the crime.

Magistrate, M.O Tanimola, granted the defendant N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Tanimola further adjourned the case until May 16, for mention.
