Border control critical for security of any nation says Tunji-Ojo

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has said that any country that cannot control its border was prone to insecurity adding that a saved border is a saved nation, a saved nation is a saved universe.

Tunji-Ojo in a press release issued yesterday by Afonja Ajibola Fatai, Head, Press and Public Relations Unit of the Ministry, said this yesterday while delivering a keynote address at a breakfast meeting as a Special Guest, organised by Business Day in Abuja.

He added that any nation that cannot secure its borders its Military, Police and other security personnel would always be over pressured, stating further that the ability to control your borders reduces insecurity by more than 70 percent.

He contended that the Ministry of Interior was very integral to any nation, adding; ” beyond passport issuance, he would not want to be remembered as Minister that solves passport problems, because there are bigger things to solve”.

He stated, “Any country that cannot critically analyse, dictates and determine who comes in who goes out of its country is prone to insecurity.”

He informed that Nigeria’s borders with Cameroon, Niger, Chard and Benin Republic spanning over four thousand and fifty and fifty seven kilometres both by land and coastal areas.

The Minister said he doesn’t have excuse to make for not able to secure the nation’s borders, he was appointed by the President to solve problem also challenging the appointees that the era of salkshots is over, adding that, “we must try to work the talk”.
