Concerned members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), have written to the parent body, threatening court action following attempt to factionalize the union.
The concerned PTD members, in a letter addressed to the NUPENG president, warned that they may head to the Industrial Court if one Salman Oladiti is not restrained from exercising undue interference in the activities of the PTD.
The concerned members made this known via a letter addressed to the NUPENG president and made available to journalists in
Abuja on Friday.
In the said letter, the trio of Suleiman Abubakar, Kehinde Olawole, and John Osagie, writing on behalf of the concerned members of the PTD, said it has become necessary to draw the attention of the NUPENG president in order to address the gradual drift towards factionalizing the PTD.
According to the group, presently, things are being done within the PTD in total disregard to the constitution of the union.
They alleged that Salman Oladiti, who is the owner of over 100 petrol tankers and who also owns 20 petrol stations, is allowed to interfere unduly with the activities of the PTD, when in essence he is a member of the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) or even the Independent Petroleum Markers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).
They called on the NUPENG president to immediately call Oladiti to order and to further restrain him from henceforth interfering with the activities of the PTD.
They further alleged that the same Oladiti has gone ahead to conduct election for a faction of the PTD, describing the act as capable of dividing the PTD.
Failure to do so, the concerned PTD members warned that they would be left with no option than to seek redress at the industrial court.
In another letter dated November 6 and copied to the Department of State Services (DSS), Minister of Labour, Registrar of Trade Unions, President NLC, amongst others, the concerned PTD members, sought clarification from the Secretary General of NUPENG over his continued interference in the activities of the PTD.
They accused the NUPENG Secretary General of undue interference in the activities of only the PTD when, in essence, there are other unions under the NUPENG.
