Rivers Attorney-General, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor Resigns

Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Rivers State, has tendered his resignation, citing “purely personal reasons” in a letter to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

This Nigeria news platform reliably gathered that his resignation may not be unconnected to the Governor’s controversial presentation of the state budget to only five members of the House of Assembly and the demolition of the State House of Assembly complex on Wednesday.

At the early stage of the political crisis rocking the state, there were rumours that the former Attorney General had been sacked by the governor. This was, however, denied by the state government.

Adangor is said to be an ally of the Minister of FCT.

The crisis in Rivers State heightened on Wednesday when the state government demolished the state legislative chamber.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, in a statement on Wednesday, said the place was unsafe for human habitation because of the recent explosion and fire incident there.

Just before the demolition of the chamber, four lawmakers loyal to the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, led by factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, held a plenary at the Government House, Port Harcourt. They thereafter okayed the state budget, presented to them by Governor Fubara.

On Monday, 27 members of the House elected on the Peoples Democratic Party platform defected to the All Progressives Congress. The lawmakers, in their letters written to the factional Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, cited division in the party over the tussle for the position of the National Secretary as the reason for their defection.
