…says things would have been worse without agency’s inputs
Hon. Philip Agbese, the honourable member representing Ado/ Okpokwu/ Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, has applauded President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians.
Agbese also commended Mustapha Habib, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for aligning with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives spoke on Friday in commemoration of International Women’s Day, appraising the Federal Government’s efforts towards humanitarian issues facing women and children in the country.
According to him, NEMA under Habib has risen to the occasion in the last year, demonstrating a top-level emergency response and well-coordinated disaster management regime.
Agbese noted that the Agency has developed solutions to emerging challenges that have enhanced its productivity in line with international humanitarian standards.
The lawmaker also acknowledged NEMA’s collaborative approach, partnerships, training, and implementation of advanced technology solutions to monitor and forecast potential hazards.
He said these and other innovative reforms by Habib have repositioned NEMA’s operational efficiency and response to emergencies.
Agbese further said that Habib has demonstrated a high level of accountability and transparency uncommon in public service.
While calling on Nigerians to continue to support the NEMA DG, the Reps’ deputy spokesman reckoned things would have been worse without him at the helm of affairs.
“For the first time, we are seeing a well-coordinated disaster management regime and a more robust warning system,” Agbese said. “NEMA under Mustapha Habib has been on top of its game.
“Through early warning and mobilization of state governments through sensitization, major disasters have been averted. Habib has demonstrated a commitment to innovation and collaboration, repositioning NEMA as a key player in disaster management globally.
“He has implemented numerous reforms to enhance NEMA’s operational efficiency. For example, there’s improved synergy with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international partners.
“Recognizing the importance of timely information in disaster management, he championed the development and implementation of advanced technology solutions to monitor and forecast potential hazards.
“This was instrumental in managing the impact of flood in 2023, minimizing the impact of disasters and ensuring swift response to emerging crises.
“Habib has also paid attention to grassroots engagement, manpower development and partnership. He has done all these in a transparent and accountable manner.
“Indeed, Habib is leading with a human face. I want to encourage him to continue on this path and urge Nigerians to show him maximum support”.
