Six feared killed, many missing as suspected herdsmen attack Agatu community

Six people were reportedly killed and one still missing as suspected armed Fulani herdsmen attacked Ogbaulu community in Agatu Local Government of Benue State on Tuesday, May.

Newsmen reported an ongoing attack at Ogbaulu community on Tuesday.

Ogbaulu community has come under frequent attacks by armed herders for the past two weeks, leading to wanton killings and destruction.

The latest attack began at about 5:30 pm, as well armed Fulani herdsmen appeared from different locations and started shooting sporadically at Ogbaulu Market, destroying shops and killing people.

An eyewitness and a youth leader of Ogbaulu community, Comrade Adole Jose Ehoda said the attackers were well armed herders and that they invaded his community through Imana and other roads leading to the community.

“The herdsmen came through the road that linked Imana in Apa LGA with our community with the intention of overrunning our village.

“We have recovered six bodies and more are still missing. They also destroyed many shops, stole foodstuffs and carted away motorcycles”, Adole said.

Another indigene of the community, Barr Napoleon Otache, in an interview, condemned the ceaseless attacks and killings by the marauders in Ogbaulu and other communities in Agatu and other LGAs.

He frowned at the slow pace of response by the security agencies to the ongoing attacks, calling on the Federal Government to end the endless genocide in Benue State.

In his reaction to the attack, the Caretaker Chairman of Agatu LGA, Hon. Yakubu Ochohepo, who couldn’t hide his anger, lampooned the attackers, saying their end was near.

He assured the people of Agatu Local Council of a quick end to the renewed insecurity.
