Dead suspect recovered after hoodlums, security team exchanged gunfire

A joint patrol team comprising police operatives and Nigerian Army personnel was involved in an exchange of gunfire with hoodlums in Aba on Monday.

According to a statement by Abia State Police Command on Monday evening, the members of Operation Crush, while on patrol in Aba, Abia State, sighted vehicles suspected to be carrying armed men moving towards the Port Harcourt express road.

The statement, signed by ASP Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson of the command, said that the patrol team pursued and intercepted the hoodlums around Umuode village, where an exchange of gunfire ensued.

ASP Chinaka, in the statement, said the hoodlums were overpowered and, as a result, abandoned their vehicles and took to their heels, some of them with gunshot injuries.

She further said: “A Sienna vehicle with bloodstains was recovered at the location. Subsequently, an abandoned Toyota Highlander SUV with the corpse of an unidentified suspect was recovered at Adanegbuazu along Mbamaonyeukwu Hotel Road in Umuode, Aba. The corpse has been deposited at a mortuary, and investigation is ongoing.”

The command encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals with bullet wounds to the nearest police station.
