Motorists stranded as flood cuts off Gombe-Yola highway

Thousands of motorists and commuters have been left stranded along the Gombe-Yola-Jalingo highway after a severe flood washed away a section of the road.

The incident occurred near Lafiya Lamorde, a border town in Gombe State, following heavy rainfall on Thursday afternoon.

The highway, which is a critical link between the North-East states of Adamawa, Gombe, and Taraba, was already under rehabilitation when floodwaters completely washed away a portion of the road.

The affected area is near a major bridge currently under construction between Savannah Sugar Company and Lafiya Lamorde.

Helpless commuters were seen gathered at the scene, unable to continue their journeys.

Some travelers, desperate after waiting for over two hours, attempted to cross the washed-away section when the water pressure briefly subsided, while others decided to turn back, abandoning their trips altogether.

The flooding has rendered the road impassable, cutting off a key transportation route for both personal and commercial vehicles.
