Tinubu hails Olowosago, Oriwu Sun on 40th anniversary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to veteran journalist and publisher, Chief Monsor Olowosago, as the Oriwu Sun community newspaper marks its 40th anniversary on the media landscape.

Describing Oriwu Sun as Nigeria’s most enduring community newspaper, Tinubu praised the Ikorodu-based publication for its resilience and continued relevance despite the evolving challenges facing print media.

In a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President commended Olowosago for his pioneering role in grassroots journalism and for using the platform to contribute meaningfully to the development of the Ikorodu community and Lagos State at large.

“Through Oriwu Sun, Olowosago has helped to put Ikorodu on the centre stage by promoting and propagating the town. The newspaper has also proven invaluable to the development of the Ikorodu community and has helped preserve and promote the people’s culture, tradition, and religion,” the President stated.

Tinubu acknowledged the critical role local journalism plays in national cohesion and cultural preservation, citing Oriwu Sun as a model for community-based reporting in Nigeria.

He applauded Olowosago’s dedication to truth, accountability and the empowerment of local voices over the past four decades.

As the paper navigates the transition into the digital age, the President expressed hope that Oriwu Sun will continue to thrive and adapt.

He also offered prayers for Olowosago’s continued good health and strength to sustain his legacy in journalism.

Founded in 1985, Oriwu Sun has earned a reputation for its consistent coverage of grassroots issues, community development efforts, and cultural events in Ikorodu and beyond.

The paper remains a vital platform for local news and public enlightenment.
