Governor Bago Backs Tinubu’s Reforms, Baro Inland Port Project

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago recently expressed his strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda, saying the changes have positively impacted the entire country.

Governor Bago met with members of the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on the Baro Inland Port.

He commended the President for providing states with the necessary resources to drive economic growth and development. The governor called these reforms essential for creating sustainable growth and improving public services.

He also thanked the House of Representatives for creating the committee, which he believes will help finally revive the Baro port.

The governor described the port’s revitalization as a long-held dream for his administration. He shared that the state is actively working with the Nigeria Railway Corporation to reopen the railway line from Baro to Minna, which will help ease traffic on the roads. The state is also collaborating with the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to complete the road from Katcha to Baro.

The governor raised concerns about the high number of boat accidents in Niger State.

To address this, he suggested working with the Lagos State government to manage water resources and called for a new National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) office in Minna.

Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, who led the House of Representatives delegation, thanked the governor for his support.

He stated that the committee’s purpose is to see the Baro port firsthand and help revive it. Wase described the port as a crucial “gateway” to Nigeria’s economy and stressed the importance of parliamentarians supporting the President’s efforts to improve the nation’s infrastructure.
