NSCDC Mourns Female Officer Who Died During Training Simulation In Abuja

NSCDC pledges investigation and support for family after officer dies during tactical rescue simulation exercise in Abuja.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Assistant Superintendent of Corps Ogbodo Ene Victoria, who died following an accident during a tactical simulation exercise in Abuja.

The incident occurred at the NSCDC National Headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory during preparations for the 2026 World Civil Defence Day. The training exercise, conducted by the Female Strike Force, focused on simulated rescue operations involving kidnapped school children as part of emergency preparedness demonstrations.

According to officials, the officer was immediately rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, after sustaining critical injuries during the exercise. Despite medical efforts to stabilise her condition, she was later pronounced dead.

Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Audi, described the development as a painful and shocking loss to the service. He extended condolences to the family of the deceased, her colleagues and members of the corps nationwide.

Audi directed a high-level delegation from the NSCDC headquarters to visit the bereaved family to formally convey the organisation’s sympathy and support. He assured that the corps would provide a befitting burial for the late officer and ensure that all her entitled service benefits are paid to her family in accordance with public service regulations.

While urging personnel to remain steadfast in their duties, the Commandant General acknowledged the risks inherent in emergency response and rescue operations, describing the tragedy as a sobering reminder of the hazards associated with tactical training.

The NSCDC leadership admitted that stricter safety protocols and improved coordination during the simulation might have prevented the accident. It has therefore advised officers and personnel to strictly adhere to operational safety standards in future exercises, particularly during high-risk drills.

The corps reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening workplace safety measures while continuing its mandate to protect lives and critical national infrastructure.

Authorities confirmed that internal investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing to ensure accountability and prevent a recurrence.
